Picky Eaters
Here’s a quote from a recent segment on Morning Edition, “Stealth Health: Nudging Kids Toward A Better Diet”: Hiding healthy stuff may be a good solution for the middle-school set. They’re notoriously picky eaters, and rejecting foods that adults insist are good for you is part of growing up. Sound like anyone you know? As I was in the car listening and thinking about...

Are You A Constitutional Scholar? →
Now on to something more serious… During our class conversations about the Political Compass and during the Blue Group’s discussions of the history book that they are reading, the topic of the U.S. Constitution has come up several times. Current events have the country talking about the Constitution too. See this article from NPR that includes a five question quiz at the end. How many of the...

This post is inspired by a chat with John. During his pre-conference, he mentioned that the older he gets, the faster time seems to go by. Well, there’s a neuroscientific explanation for that feeling as explained in this NPR piece by Robert Krulwich: “Why Does Time Fly By As You Get Older?” (Krulwich was mentioned on this blog last week.) The “Homer Every Day” video...

You know those MUNI trains that, in part, made it possible for us to get around while in San Francisco? Well, sometimes the tracks need to be replaced. The process is not insignificant. Here you can see three and a half days condensed into a twelve minute video showing construction on the tracks at Church and 30th. The timelapse was put together by Ken Murphy. (via Jason Kottke)

The return dates are next to the titles. This helps parents know what materials are checked out to their children and when books need to be returned. Unfortunately it is a canned title in the software and I am not able to change it. I have...
