WatchWatch
On Friday afternoon, Carwai and I dusted off the vaults and extracted this gem from when the eighth graders were in sixth grade. It’s a classic, as are the rest of the Cool Wall episodes, especially those from season one (dig around there to see cameos by several others from our clan), and most especially, our all-time favorite the Cool Wall Special. As with everything in the NMY, our...

Let Kids Rule the School →
I tweeted a quote from this article when I first read it. But perhaps children don’t need another reform imposed on them. Instead, they need to be the authors of their own education. Since then, three people I know have sent me a message pointing the article out. There’s a reason for that, I think, but I’d like to have your opinion. How does the article fit in with your NMY...

quixotic →
Having mentioned Don Quixote in an earlier post today reminds me of the word quixotic: Caught up in the romance of noble deeds and the pursuit of unreachable goals; idealistic without regard to practicality. Capricious; impulsive: “At worst his scruples must have been quixotic, not malicious” (Louis Auchincloss). That word is a neologism that came from the protagonist in...
