Wondering what to do with two of your rainy-day hours? Try Star Wars Uncut: Director’s Cut.
Finally, the crowd-sourced project has been stitched together and put online for your streaming pleasure. The “Director’s Cut” is a feature-length film that contains hand-picked scenes from the entire StarWarsUncut.com collection.
“What’s that?” you say.
Let’s start with the idea of crowdsourcing:
Crowdsourcing is the act of sourcing tasks traditionally performed by specific individuals to a group of people or community (crowd) through an open call.
Recently, these sort of projects have been made more easy through the power of the internet. With Star Wars Uncut, fans of the Star Wars films from all over the world joined forces to recreate the the first film made in the series: A New Hope. Here was the original open call from the Star Wars Uncut website:
We cut the movie up into 15 second clips. You claim one and refilm it however you like. We put it back together and watch the magic.
This process of recreating a film is usually called sweding. It was central to the Michel Gondry film Be Kind Rewind that features Jack Black and Mos Def.
Got it? Star Wars + Crowdsourcing + Sweding = Star Wars Uncut
